Don't Dry Up! Hydrate Yourself Regularly

As the temperatures rise heading into summer, hydration stops being a “nice-to-have” and becomes a non-negotiable part of your health and performance routine. Whether you’re training hard, spending more time outdoors, or just navigating the Georgia heat, your body is losing more fluids than usual and it needs to be replaced consistently.

A simple and effective baseline: drink half your body weight in ounces of water every day. If you weigh 180 pounds, that’s 90 ounces of water daily. It’s not a random number; it’s a practical guideline to help maintain proper hydration levels, support recovery, and keep your body functioning at its best.

Hydration plays a bigger role than most people realize. It regulates body temperature, lubricates joints, supports digestion, and helps transport nutrients throughout your body. Even mild dehydration can lead to fatigue, headaches, decreased performance, and slower recovery times. In a training environment, that can be the difference between progress and plateau.

As summer heat intensifies, your sweat rate increases—meaning you’re losing not just water, but electrolytes too. If you’re working out or staying active, your hydration needs may go beyond the baseline. That’s when adding electrolytes or increasing water intake becomes important to maintain balance and avoid cramping or burnout.

The key is consistency. Don’t wait until you feel thirsty; that’s already a sign you’re behind. Start your day with water, keep a bottle with you, and make hydration part of your daily routine just like your workouts.

At Strongside Fitness, we believe success is built on simple, repeatable habits. Drinking half your body weight in ounces of water is one of the easiest ways to improve energy, performance, and overall well-being this summer.

Stay ahead of the heat. Hydrate with purpose.
